Incident
Patrolman Frank Blazek was shot and killed while transporting a prisoner to the police station. He had arrested an offender responsible for more than 35 armed robberies. As he was transporting the suspect to the station, the suspect suddenly attacked him in front of 4913 South State Street. The prisoner gained control of his service weapon and fatally shot him while still inside the vehicle. The man was apprehended two weeks later was ultimately sentenced to life in prison. Patrolman Blazek had served two years with the Chicago Police Department.
