Incident
Sheriff Verne Royse was thrown from his horse while riding in the parade on Main Street during the County Fair. He struck his head on the pavement, causing a fatal injury. Sheriff Royse had served with the Gooding County Sheriff's Department for nine years.

He was survived by his wife and two sons.
