Biography

Lucas was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and he interned with Homeland Security Investigations in Detroit. He then began a promising career at the Atlanta Police Department; his death profoundly impacted the APD where he was considered family. In addition to law enforcement, Lucas loved the outdoors. He was an avid camper and hunter and enjoyed the freedom of riding his motorcycle. Lucas was also a music aficionado; He was passionate about music, concerts, and playing his guitars. He left behind a family and his dogs whom he loved deeply. Since his death, his parents, Brian and Marie Sizemore, have founded the Lucas Foundation, inspired by their son. “Lucas” is short for Law Enforcement’s United Crusade Against Suicide, and its purpose is to raise awareness for law enforcement suicide. It also will raise funds to support mental health resources. They recently held their first annual Polar Plunge in honor of Lucas. The funds raised from the event and future fundraisers will be distributed to organizations that offer services to prevent suicide among police officers and civilians alike. His parents will also actively keep his legacy alive by speaking openly about suicide and mental health.
