Correctional Officer Wilson Cartwright succumbed to injuries he received when an inmate at the Baldwin Correctional Institution beat him. Officer Cartwright had served with the Georgia Department of Corrections for 12 years.

He was survived by his wife, three sons, and six grandchildren.
