Incident
Officer Sherrold Gorton was struck and killed by the driver of an 18-ton dump truck when he was backing up on Richards Avenue and Route 1. Officer Gorton was directing traffic when he was struck. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Gorton had served with the Norwalk Police Department for 12 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife and children.
