Incident
Officer Fidel Aleman was shot and killed after an altercation with another motorist on the way to report to his shift at 9:30 pm. When a speeding pickup truck cut off Officer Aleman, he flashed his lights. The truck driver then tailed Officer Aleman's vehicle with high beams on the Santa Monica Freeway, exiting at the Pico Boulevard off-ramp. When Officer Aleman stepped out of the vehicle to speak with the subject, the subject pointed a shotgun out the passenger side window and opened fire. Officer Aleman returned fire, but there is no evidence that the subject was hit. Officer Aleman was transported to the California Medical Center- Los Angeles, where he succumbed to his wound to the chest. The suspect was never apprehended. Officer Aleman had served with the California Highway Patrol for eight years and was assigned to the Central Los Angeles Station.
Survivors
He is survived by his two daughters and fiancee.
