Incident

Sergeant Richard Trembath was killed in a motorcycle crash accident while returning from a two-week training course at the academy in Sacramento. When he attempted to pass a vehicle in the middle lane, another car was also passing a vehicle, and they collided head-on. Sergeant Trembath was thrown from his motorcycle and killed instantly. The day he was killed was his last day as a motorcycle officer. He had just been promoted to Sergeant and was scheduled to receive a cruiser the next day. Sergeant Trembath had served with the California Highway Patrol for ten years.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife, two children, and parents.
