Incident
Officer John Hoglund was shot and killed while responding to a robbery alarm at a local market store at 4052 52nd Street. He was shot three times with a .45 caliber handgun as he exited his patrol car. The assailants were later arrested and convicted of his murder. The subject who shot him was subsequently sentenced to death. Officer Hoglund had served with the Maywood Police Department for 16 years.
