Incident

Acting Constable Charles Winston was struck and killed by a vehicle on Valley Boulevard, approximately two miles west of downtown Puente, while on official business.

He was accidentally struck as he stepped into the roadway from between two cars.

Acting Constable Winston had been appointed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors only two days earlier to fill in for the regular constable of Puente Township, who was on a two month leave of absence.
