Incident

Deputy Phillips was shot and killed as he and his partner responded to a disturbance call. As the two deputies approached a pickup truck the suspect opened fire through the rear window, striking Deputy Phillips in the face. Deputy Phillips' partner returned fire and killed the suspect. Deputy Phillips had served with the agency for 8 years.

He was survived by his wife and four children.
