Incident
Town Marshal J.M. Bishop succumbed to his wounds when he was stabbed as he entered a home near Long Street to investigate a domestic disturbance involving a man and his wife.
Upon arrival, the man invited Marshal Bishop into his home but then attacked him with a long Mexican dagger as soon as he entered. The suspect stabbed Marshal Bishop multiple times and then ran out the front door. Marshal Bishop managed to shoot the suspect six times as he fled, killing him instantly.
Girard, Alabama, no longer exists. It was annexed by its neighbor Phenix City, Alabama, in 1923.
I am the Great Great grandson of Ramsey Webster, the man who stabbed Marshall Bishop and was subsequently shot and killed. It’s my understanding that the Marshall was messing around with Ramsey’s wife and he was not happy about it and in a drunken rage, my Great Great Grand Father took revenge and sadly they both FAFO.
