Shot dead while on patrol in an ambush by IRA gunmen.

Shot dead when his patrol of four or five vehicles from Garrison, County Tyrone, sent to relieve sixty-four USC men besieged at Magherameenagh Castle, was ambushed by terrorists at Belleek on the Donegal-Tyrone border.
