Incident
He finished duty about 9.50pm and informed a colleague he intended to walk the short distance home to Canton as he lived near the level crossing there.
About 5.30am his body was discovered lying between the railway lines a short distance from the station in the direction of his home. Once the alarm was raised he was identified and his body thereafter removed from the tracks into the station.
The coroner later concluded it likely he had been struck and died almost instantly from the force of a passing train striking him causing his fall into the tracks, there was no evidence of crushing injuries from wheels.
