Incident
About 1.20am PC Blackburn went to the aid of a motorist who had broken down on the A5, a short distance from Gailey Island. While he was assisting the driver another vehicle crashed into the stranded car and PC Blackburn sustained fatal injuries. The two drivers both sustained injuries but survived.
PC Blackburn had nine years service and was a Traffic Division officer stationed at Great Haywood.
He is survived by his wife and their three children.
