Incident
At 7.07pm, just after going off duty and leaving Kinawley RUC Station, Reserve Constable McCrone and a colleague were in an unmarked car travelling to Enniskillen. They were just one mile from Kinawley, driving along the Graffy Road, Crocknacreevy, Mackan, when their vehicle was ambushed by terrorists who sprayed their car with gunfire.
With Hugh mortally wounded their vehicle crashed into the verge. His colleague attempted to return fire but was seriously wounded in the neck, shoulder, arm and body.
Hugh was single but had recently got engaged. His funeral took place at Cookstown Presbyterian Church.
