Incident
Killed alongside a District Inspector, a Temporary Constable and thirteen other Temporary Cadets, when their auxiliary division mobile patrol was ambushed by a large terrorist unit at Dus a’ Bharraigh, in the townland of Shanacashel, Kilmichael Parish, near Macroom, County Cork. Temporary Cadet Cecil James Guthrie who escaped the incident, was caught and shot two days later.
