Incident
Died the day after he was shot as he and Constable Michael Enright, who died the previous day, and two other officers were escorting a prisoner by train when, at Knocklong station, four or five terrorist gunmen boarded the train to free the prisoner. One of the surviving officers was awarded the Constabulary Medal for courage and devotion to duty. The other officer, however, had come from a very nationalist family and it was he who had leaked the information regarding the escort’s movements.
