Incident
Ambushed and killed returning unarmed from leave to barracks.
Shot dead when he and another Constable, unarmed and in civilian clothing, were ambushed by six as they returned from leave, cycling from Ennis to their barracks at Kildysart, County Clare. The other Constable escaped across the fields but was pursued by his attackers for almost an hour.
