Incident

About 8.50pm Constable Perrier was off duty walking back from the cinema with a fellow Constable in Bandon, Co Cork. As they walked along North Main Street they were ambushed by gunmen who shot and hit them both.

Constable Perrier rushed into a house exclaiming he had been shot, fell to the ground and died. He had been shot through his stomach. The other Constable survived.

From England he had previously served in the Royal Navy. He had been stationed in Bandon for 7 months,
