Incident

PC Walker died two days after sustaining serious head injuries, as a result of being dragged one hundred yards along the road and thrown into a stone bollard, while attempting to arrest a suspect who drove away in a second car.

The officer had earlier given chase with his police dog, following the abandonment of a stolen taxi in Bulwell, Nottingham.

Ged had 24 years service. He joined the police cadets as soon as he left school at the age of sixteen years and was appointed to the force in 1978. He had been a member of the force dog section since 1987 and was stationed at police headquarters at Sherwood Lodge.

In 1990 he received a judge’s commendation for saving the life of a potential suicide.

PC Walker was survived by his wife and their daughter aged thirteen and son aged twelve.
