Incident

Sergeant Caulton was killed instantly when his police car struck a stationary lorry on Cleveland Hill, Retford, near East Markham, during the blackout.

Bernard had been in charge of Tuxford section of Retford Police Division since 1936.

He left a wife and a son who was serving in the Royal Air Force.
