Incident
Sergeant Spooner was steering a police motor-boat across the River Thames, when a strong ebb tide forced the boat against some barges moored near Southwark Bridge.
Two other officers managed to save themselves by jumping onto the barge but as he attempted to do so, George fell into the river and drowned.
