Died five days after being injured when he was struck by a beam and fell through a collapsing floor while fighting a major fire at the factory of Charles Mackintosh & Co, manufacturers of India rubber waterproof and air-proof clothes. The building was situated on Cambridge Street, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester.
