Incident

Died while on patrol when a man that he had previously reported, plunged a knife into the officer, took his truncheon and bludgeoned him to death. Nine days earlier, on 16th January, in the village of Wrekenton, Constable Graham had cause to deal with the same man for disturbing the peace while evicting his wife from their home. Having left he was called back and subsequently reported the man. On 25th January, the man appeared before Gateshead Magistrates Court where he was found guilty and fined. After the trial Constable Graham returned home and went about his normal business, before going on patrol when he was attacked.
