Agent Mohamed Lamine Benredouane of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal was shot and killed in the line of duty on 22 June 2026, aged 34, near the entrance of the Hilton hotel in Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal. He and his partner were the first officers at a call about a person displaying a gun from a window, and were fired on by a suspect with a long gun; a civilian was also killed and a second officer critically injured. He had served the SPVM since 2021 at Station 26, which serves Côte-des-Neiges, Mont-Royal and Outremont, the neighbourhood where he grew up. He was the first SPVM officer killed in the line of duty in 24 years.

Survivors

Survived by his spouse; his young son and a child not yet born; his twin brother, Ahmed; and his sisters, Amira and Lina.

Biography

Born in Algeria, he settled in Quebec with his family in 2005 and grew up in Côte-des-Neiges. He had wanted to be a police officer since childhood. His civic funeral was held at the Centre Bell on 7 July 2026, and he was buried in Laval.
