Incident
Provincial Constable Tarun Bali of the Ontario Provincial Police was killed in the line of duty on 9 June 2026, aged 29, near Hearst, Ontario, when he was struck by a vehicle during an attempt to apprehend a man who had escaped from hospital. An 18-year-old was charged with first-degree murder. A member of the Dufferin County Detachment, Central Region, he was deployed to the James Bay Detachment, North East Region, at the time. He joined the OPP in 2023 after two years with the City of Kitchener's bylaw enforcement team.
Survivors
Survived by his wife, Komal Sharma Bali; his parents, Ashok Bali and Neena Bali; his sister Manisha Mohan and her husband Rajiv Mohan; his brother Varun Bali and his wife Manisha (Nannu) Bali; his brother-in-law Shiv Sharma; his nephews Rayansh Mohan and Aryan Bali and his niece Aerika Bali; his grandmother Pushpa Bali; and the extended Bali, Gautam, Mohan, Sharma, Menon and Bhanot families. Predeceased by his grandparents Ved Bhushan Bali, Jagmohan Lal Gautam and Usha Gautam.
Biography
Born on 12 January 1997, he came to Canada with his family in 2005 and grew up in Brampton. He volunteered with Peel Region Victim Services, belonged to the Sur-Taal Heritage Organization, and spoke Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.
