Incident
Sergeant Brandon Malcolm of the Ontario Provincial Police was killed in the line of duty on 27 April 2026, aged 33, in a single-vehicle collision while riding his police motorcycle on Highway 401 in Cobourg, Ontario. He joined the OPP as a Provincial Constable with the Northumberland (Brighton) Detachment in June 2020 and served his entire career there, rising to Sergeant. He rode with the OPP Golden Helmets precision motorcycle team and was the OPP Association representative for Northumberland. Before the OPP he was an auxiliary member of the Toronto Police Service, and he served as a combat engineer with 32 Combat Engineer Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces from 2014 to 2022.

Survived by his wife, Vashti Persaud; his parents, Lisa Russell and Nigel Malcolm; his siblings Shannon Malcolm-Stoney (Khaleel Stoney), Terrell Malcolm (Nikayla), Jared Malcolm (Victoria), Bria Malcolm, Marlon Malcolm, Mason Malcolm (Jonee), Jaden Malcolm, Jordan Malcolm and C'meron Malcolm; his grandmother Delma Russell; his niece Khaleesi and nephews Caelum and Kyrie; his in-laws Ganesh and Carol Persaud, Jason Persaud (Eryn Persaud) and their children Ayla and Auckland; and extended family in England and Florida. Predeceased by his grandparents Gordon Russell and Herbert and Violet Malcolm.
Biography
Born on 8 December 1992, he met his wife, Vashti, at a Toronto mall; they had been married ten years. Colleagues called him Mr. Above and Beyond.
