On March 16, 2023 at just after midnight Edmonton Police Service West Branch patrol officers Cst. Travis Jordan and Cst. Brett Ryan were dispatched to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in the area of 114 Avenue and 132 Street. Upon arrival they spoke to the caller of the domestic dispute (the mother of the suspect) outside the complex. As the officers approached the suite, they were both shot multiple times by the young male suspect at the door. The officers were ambushed and were unable to discharge their firearms. The officers were unaware that the suspect had access to firearms as it was not mentioned in the call. The suspect and his mother then got into an altercation during which time she was shot as well. The suspect then turned the gun on himself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The two officers were rushed to hospital but were declared dead upon arrival. The mother of the suspect was also taken to hospital in serious but stable condition. Cst. Travis Jordan was an 8.5-year member of the Edmonton Police Service. He and his wife Annie moved to Edmonton from Nova Scotia more than eight years ago to pursue his career in policing. He is being remembered as a calm and kind person who went out of his way to help others. Due to one event of kindness, he was nicknamed ‘Snow Angel’. Our condolences go out to Annie, his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be remembered.
