On Friday July 2, 2021 Cst. Jeffrey Northrup was responding to an emergency call in a parking garage near Toronto City Hall when he was struck and killed by a vehicle. In the early hours of July 2, Cst. Jeffrey Northrup was conducting an investigation to an emergency call to a parking garage near Queen and Bay. During the course of the investigation, Cst. Northrup and his partner were intentionally hit by another vehicle attempting to flee. Cst. Northrup was attended to by fellow officers and the Toronto Fire Service and rushed to the hospital. He was pronounced shortly after arrival. His partner was treated and released. The suspect was arrested and has been charged with first degree murder. Cst. Northrup proudly served the Toronto Police Service for 31 and a half years. He started his career with Court Services and was assigned to 11 Division when he became a police officer in 1999. He has been a member of 52 Division since 2008. He was also a proud member of the Chief’s Ceremonial Unit. He is survived by his wife, his three children and his mother. Our condolences go out to his wife, three children, his mother, family, colleagues and friends. He will be remembered. As we start 2026, we can look back and note that we have been very fortunate to not have lost anyone in Canada to a Line of Duty Death (LODD) these last two years.
