Incident

On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at approximately 10:30 AM, Sergeant-Investigator Anaïs Fortin-Cozzens of the Sûreté du Québec's Major Crimes Investigation Division in Gatineau was travelling on Route 138 in Portneuf-sur-Mer, about 300 km northeast of Quebec City in the province's Côte-Nord region, when she was killed in a three-vehicle collision while on her way to police headquarters during an investigation. Four people were injured, two seriously.

Sergeant Fortin-Cozzens began her career with the Sûreté du Québec in 2010 in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality, and after a period with the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit returned to the region in 2021 to join the Major Crimes Investigation Division in Gatineau. She was 37. Remembered as discreet and reserved yet genuine and full of warmth, she was devoted above all to her family.
