On Thursday March 14, 2013, Constable Jennifer Kovach, a four year veteran of the Guelph Police Service, died in a motor vehicle incident while responding to an other officers request for assistance. At 1230 a.m. Cst. Kovach, 26 years, lost control of her police cruiser crossing the centre line on Imperial Road South near Paisley Road and collided head-on with a transit bus. She was extricated from the vehicle by the Guelph Fire Department after the crash and taken to Guelph General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the bus, who provided significant care to Cst. Kovach until the fire department arrived, was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries and was released. Cst. Kovach was alone in her cruiser and there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. As we start 2026, we can look back and note that we have been very fortunate to not have lost anyone in Canada to a Line of Duty Death (LODD) these last two years.
