Incident
On August 10, 2012, Community Peace Officer Rod Lazenby was beaten and killed during an altercation with a suspect regarding an un-permitted dog kennel. Officer Lazenby was investigating the complaint at the Tangled Spur Ranch located north of Priddis. He had gone to the ranch to speak to the man about the repeated offense when a confrontation occurred and Officer Lazenby was critically injured. The suspect drove him to a police station in Calgary. Officer Lazenby was then transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was charged with first degree murder. Officer Lazenby retired after 35 years with the RCMP and had taken a job as a peace officer with the Municipal District of Foothills where he served for three years. He is survived by his wife and three children. As we start 2026, we can look back and note that we have been very fortunate to not have lost anyone in Canada to a Line of Duty Death (LODD) these last two years.
