Incident

K9 Knight was shot and killed while responding to a domestic call at the 12900 block of Gumfork Place in Midlothian. Around 4:40 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call from a woman requesting assistance as a man was firing a gun inside her home. When officers arrived, the suspect shot at the officers, killing K9 Knight. Two officers were transported to local hospitals with critical wounds. The suspect was also shot in return fire, sustaining minor wounds. He has been charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a police officer, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding of a police officer, one count of killing a police dog, and four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. K9 Knight had served with the Chesterfield County Police Department for three years.
