K9 Axel suffered a fatal medical emergency while conducting a track of an armed suspect in the 8700 block of Glen Park Court NW in Sparta Township.
Deputies located the suspect in a vehicle after arriving at the scene of the home invasion burglary. The suspect fled on foot and K9 Axel was deployed to perform a track. He began to show symptoms of a medical emergency and was rushed to Animal Emergency Hospital where he died.
K9 Axel had served with the Kent County Sheriff's Office for two years.
