K9 Sarge was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a suspect in a wooded area near Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
As Sarge attempted to flush the man out of the bushes the subject opened fire, killing Sarge. His handler returned fire and killed the suspect.
K9 Sarge had served with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for four years. In 2010 alone he had responded to 520 calls for service.
