Incident

K9 Onyx died after an unexpected battle with lymphoma.

Onyx was certified in 2021 in patrol work and narcotics detection with his handler, Officer Tim Camerl. He was a SWAT-integrated K9 and participated in numerous SWAT callouts during his career. Onyx conducted narcotic sniffs on patrol and worked with the United States Postal Service Inspection Service. He identified and located several kilograms of illegal narcotics and over a quarter million dollars in seized drug money.

Onyx located multiple firearms during motor vehicle stops in the course of narcotic detection on patrol. Police said Onyx was a loving and personable dog who enjoyed spending time with teammates and family at home.
