K9 Jack served the people of Arizona with the Arizona Department of Public Safety Canine Unit as a dual-purpose patrol and narcotics detection canine, beginning in February 2026. On the evening of July 9, 2026, Jack suffered a sudden medical emergency. Despite the efforts of veterinary staff, he did not survive. A subsequent examination determined that his death was caused by an undiagnosed congenital defect. He was 18 months old. Jack is mourned by his handler, his fellow Canine Unit members, and all who worked alongside him. badge.nw honors him permanently.
