Incident

Officer William Murie succumbed to injuries sustained three days earlier when he was struck by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of an accident on I-17, 20 miles near Phoenix. He was en route to a temporary assignment in Phoenix as a counselor cadet training when he encountered the crash and stopped to provide assistance. After being struck, he was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries three days later. Officer Murie was a U.S. Army veteran. He had served with the Phoenix Police Department for five years and had previously served with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office for two years.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife, three-year-old twin daughters, parents, and brother.
