Incident

Patrolman William Hopkins succumbed to injuries he received in a motorcycle crash while attempting to stop a speeding car on Bloomfield Avenue and Branch Brook Park Drive in Newark.

Another vehicle crashed into his motorcycle, causing him to sustain severe injuries. He succumbed to his injuries at City Hospital two days later.

Patrolman Hopkins was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Newark Police Division for five years.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife and two children.
