Incident

Master Sergeant Tyler Marie Grezaffi died on March 18, 2026, after a single-vehicle crash on the grounds of Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. According to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, her vehicle left the roadway and was found overturned in a water-filled canal on the prison compound. After her location was pinged, a Pointe Coupee Parish deputy located her vehicle approximately one hour later. The Louisiana State Police are investigating the incident.

At the time of her passing, Tyler was serving as an investigator at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, where she had worked for more than a year. She had previously served with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office (where she worked alongside her father, Sgt. Scott Grezaffi, as a dispatcher and school resource officer) and with the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office (early 2019).

Tyler was the daughter of Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Grezaffi. Her father said: "She loved the job. She loved helping people. She was an angel."

Gary Westcott, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, said: "Although Tyler Grezaffi was at the beginning of her promising career in public safety and corrections, she had already made a significant impact through her previous roles with the Pointe Coupee and Iberville Parish Sheriffs' Offices. Since joining our department, more than a year ago, her dedication, energy and kindness have left an unforgettable mark on everyone she encountered."

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said: "Tyler was a beautiful soul who brought light to everyone around her — both within our department and throughout the community. Her kindness, dedication, and bright spirit left a lasting impression on those who knew and worked alongside her."

Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said: "In early 2019, Tyler Grezaffi proudly served as a member of the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office. Although her time with us was brief, she demonstrated a deep commitment to the profession and a passion for service that left a lasting impression on those who had the honor of working alongside her."

Funeral services were held Monday, March 23, 2026 at New Life Worship Center in New Roads, attended by more than 600 people including law enforcement officers from across Louisiana.

Tyler is survived by her fiancé Brandon Blackburn, her father Scott Grezaffi, and family. She was born July 14, 1998 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
