Incident

Special Agent Truett Rowe was shot and killed while attempted to arrest a jail escapee in Page, New Mexico. The man was also wanted for warrants in Arkansas and Oklahoma. The officers located him at his family's ranch in the rural Page community in McKenzie County, New Mexico. As Agent Rowe and a local police chief allowed the man to collect possessions the man suddenly pulled out a weapon and opened fire, fatally wounding Agent Rowe. The 24-year-old suspect was recaptured that night. He was sentenced to life in prison and sent to Alcatraz. He died in the Oklahoma Penitentiary on May 12, 1975. Agent Rowe had served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for three months. He is buried at Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
