Troy Merle Hogue
Incident
Trooper Troy Hogue was shot and killed while conducting a single-vehicle accident investigation on I-20 approximately 10 miles east of Big Spring at about 9:00 pm. A juvenile male had been placed in a Howard County Sheriff's Office deputy's patrol car after being detained for driving while intoxicated. Trooper Hogue and another trooper arrived on the scene and were attempting to interview the boy when the subject pulled out a gun and shot Trooper Hogue. The trooper and deputy disarmed the subject. The subject was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison. Trooper Hogue had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for seven years and had previously served with the Big Spring Police Department for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, parents, and two sisters.
