Incident

Deputy Widman was shot and killed by a runaway who was walking along the main highway in Hiawatha, Kansas. The juvenile was a runaway and also the son of a Buffalo, New York police officer. While transporting the juvenile to the station the suspect took a handgun out of the duffel bag he was carrying and shot Deputy Widman in the head. The suspect was shot and killed by local law enforcement authorities after he fled the scene.
