Biography
Tim served two deployments during his 23 years with the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant. Alongside his distinguished military career, he joined the Polk County Sheriff’s office in 1993, where he served many roles including the commander of the Honor Guard, METRO STAR Tactical Entry Team, Patrol, Motorcycle Patrol, Accident Reconstructionist, and finally, Detective. When not serving his community, Tim loved to ride his motorcycle. This was something that he and his wife, Heidi, loved to do together. Their last ride was just a month before his death; the ride to Tennessee and through the Tail of the Dragon is a wonderful memory. A father, husband, friend, and the glue of his family, Tim was 45 years old when he tragically took his life in the family home on September 26, 2014. He left behind his beloved wife, Heidi, four children, countless friends, and family; all of whom miss him dearly. “The tragedy of losing him has taken so much from our family, and a decade later I can say we are slowly finding some sort of normal. It has taken all these years to piece back together what was taken away from us in a matter of seconds. We hope that by sharing our beloved, conversations about mental health will evolve and we can spare another family from this loss.” On September 21, 2024, Tim will be honored with a 10-year Remembrance Ride in Iowa, with hopes that this will also bring a difficult topic to the forefront and save lives. Thank you, Detective Schuster, for your service. Special thanks to his family for sharing him with us.
