Incident
Deputy Sheriff Thomas Andrews was shot and killed while working an undercover operation in the parking lot of a hotel at 2712 Gratiot Avenue. During the operation, a suspect attempted to rob him and he identified himself as a deputy. The suspect then shot and killed him. The subject committed suicide with Deputy Andrews' gun early the next morning as officers attempted to arrest him. An accomplice turned himself in later in the day. Deputy Andrews had served with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for eight years.
