Incident

Trooper Miller was shot when he responded to a 911 hang-up call. Trooper Miller was the backup officer for deputies from the Atacosa County Sheriff’s Department. When Trooper Miller arrived at the scene, he discovered that Deputy Mark Stephenson and Deputy Thomas Monse had been fatally shot and radioed for backup. The suspect shot and killed Trooper Miller before responding officers arrived. Two other officers were wounded while attempting to arrest the suspect. The suspect committed suicide.
