Incident

Sergeant Severo Firpi-Solis was shot and killed while performing security duties at Carioca Government Housing in Guayama, Puerto Rico. As Tropical Storm Hortense struck the island, the power went out and shots were fired inside the housing projects. When Sergeant Firpi left the small temporary station located at the entrance on the housing project to investigate, the assailant shot him in the back of the head. The subject who shot him was arrested and charged with murder. Sergeant Firpi-Solis had served with the Puerto Rico Police Department for 12 years.
