Incident

Police Officer Scott Parker was shot and wounded when three men and a woman attempted to car-jack him in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. The suspects approached Officer Parker's vehicle and attempted to take his car. Officer Parker drew his weapon and was shot by one suspect in the neck. Officer Parker was able to return fire, striking one suspect in the arm and wounding him. That suspect was arrested one block away. The other suspects were apprehended later in the week. Officer Parker was transported to Kings County Hospital where he remained on life support until his death. The woman and two of the male suspects were convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 17 years to life. The woman was paroled in 2006. One of the male suspects was paroled in 2010. Officer Parker had served with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department for three years.
