As Lieutenant Baldwin was exiting his patrol vehicle, the subject produced a gun and shot Lieutenant Baldwin three times, leaving him lying on the pavement with his gun still holstered. The suspect was apprehended two days later. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. When Indiana's death penalty was declared unconstitutional, he was sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 2009. Tributes

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Lieutenant Baldwin gave the Crawfordsville Police Department 12 years.
Thank you for your service to the Crawfordsville community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
