Incident

Wildlife Protection Officer Richard Cayouette died when his partner collided with him while loading his snowmobile onto his truck on Thursday March 1st, 07 at around 3 pm. The accident occured at kilometer 85 of Chemin Barette south, located at one hour north of Chapais. Cayouette was transported by helicopter to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cayouettes partner was also airlifted to hospital where he was treated for shock. Cayouette had been a wildlife Protection Officer for 9 years and had worked with the same partner for 5 years. He is survived by two daughters aged 8 and 11 years. As we start 2026, we can look back and note that we have been very fortunate to not have lost anyone in Canada to a Line of Duty Death (LODD) these last two years.
